Bois-du-Duc

On your left, the Bois-du-Duc viewpoint opens onto one of the best views over the Blavet Valley. Take a moment to soak it in. From this high ground, you can look down over the river and actually see the nearby ocean at work, as the tides raise and lower the water below.

But this landscape wasn’t shaped by nature alone. In the 19th century, major engineering projects transformed what had once been a wild river, creating the locks, quays, and riverside path you can still make out from here today. And the story of this spot goes back even further.

As peaceful as it looks now, this green hillside was once part of a prestigious hunting estate belonging to the Dukes of Brittany. In fact, that royal pastime is exactly where the name Bois-du-Duc comes from—it literally means “the Duke’s Wood.”
