Once you pass through these gates, you’ll be stepping into the green heart of Montauban. Spread over three hectares, this Botanical Garden is home to a wide variety of plant species, some native, others from distant parts of the world – many of which were planted back in the 19th century when the garden was first created. Hard to imagine now, but before all this greenery, the area was just a steep, scrubby hillside. That changed in 1849, when plans for a wide promenade took shape. Two hectares of land were purchased and transformed by one of Paris’s top landscape designers. After twelve years of hard work, the Botanical Garden officially opened, and it’s been a favorite spot for the locals to stroll, unwind, and enjoy nature ever since. These days, it’s also a place for entertainment, with a distinctly modern twist. This garden is actually the world’s first public theme park to use augmented reality. Download the free app, and you’ll find yourself surrounded by famous local figures, magical creatures, and wild animals brought to life right before your eyes. Talk about stepping into the 21st century!
