The Brotherhood of the Grey Penitents was the last to be established in Aubagne, founded in 1672. The chapel you see in front of you is theirs, and as you can tell, it has a much more modest style than the more elaborate chapels of the White and Black Penitents. But don’t let its simplicity fool you—it’s just as historically significant and is also listed as a Historic Monument. Today, it houses one of Aubagne’s oldest associations, which has been working for over 90 years to preserve and promote Provençal traditions and folklore, both here and throughout France.
