The Place du Commando
The Saint-Nazaire audio-guided tour takes you to the Place du Commando, become the festive and convivial heart of the city, facing the Loire estuary.
A new heart of the city facing the sea
Inaugurated in July 2018, the Place du Commando is the fruit of the municipal will to enhance the coastline and revitalise the city centre. Over more than 4,500 square metres, judiciously laid out and oriented due south, it brings together restaurants, bars, urban furniture, picnic tables and water games, in the shade of the pines. On the beach side, a wooden play area welcomes children, while the improvised stage and the terraces animate the fine days. The name of the square pays tribute to the commandos of Operation Chariot, recalling that this peaceful seafront was also a high place of the military history of the city. Today, inhabitants and visitors meet there for a meal with a view, an aperitif or a simple walk on the seafront.
