Place du Palais de Justice

A stop on the Nice audio-guided tour, Place du Palais de Justice is dominated by the imposing courthouse, built in 1892 on the site of the former Dominican convent.

The Oulivier, a symbol of peace

Just next to it, the Oulivier was inaugurated in 2021: this work by Laurent Bosio depicts a steel olive tree on its concrete base, a symbol of peace through the most characteristic tree of the South. The square thus combines judicial solemnity and contemporary art.

What to see

The square comes alive with themed markets: the painters and artists market on the first and third Saturdays of the month, the old books market on the second Saturday and the old postcards market on the fourth. A lively place where history, justice and culture meet.

Practical information

Place du Palais de Justice is in the heart of old Nice. Freely accessible, it can be discovered at any time; the themed markets take place on certain Saturdays, to be checked depending on the season.
