All the memory of the city on the Loire

Opened in 1988 on the initiative of the municipality, the Ecomuseum invites one to a journey through time, from the origins to the present day, through the happy moments as well as the darker hours of Saint-Nazaire. The creation of the port, the reconstruction of the city after the wars and the development of metallurgy are among the great stages of this story. The visit, estimated at about forty-five minutes, links permanent and temporary exhibitions and relies on collection objects, models and documents, drawn from a collection of several thousand pieces. One understands there how this city on the Loire, built twice in a century, forged its singular identity between estuary, port and great industries.

What there is to see

The Ecomuseum retraces the adventure of Saint-Nazaire through objects, models and documents, from the fishing village to the great industrial city. Permanent and temporary exhibitions shed light on the port, the reconstruction and metallurgy. It is an ideal visit to understand the singular history of the city before or after the walk.

Practical information

The Ecomuseum is on the edge of the Loire estuary, in Saint-Nazaire. The entrance is about six euros for adults and three euros for children from four to seventeen years, and free for those under four years; the hours are to be checked on site.
