A singular river

Only 11.5 kilometres long, the Maine is one of the few rivers in France without a real source: it is born north of Angers from the confluence of the Mayenne and the Sarthe. Some geographers even consider it the extension of these watercourses. The promenade, attested under this name since 1669, owes its name to its dead-end layout, on the edge of the rocky spur.

What there is to see

From the promenade, the panorama takes in the Maine, the quays, the Doutre district and its roofs, in a green setting. It is one of the finest viewpoints in Angers, ideal at sunset. Backing onto the castle, the promenade links the monument to the heart of the city, along the former ramparts.
