Escal'Atlantic

Escal'Atlantic

The Saint-Nazaire audio-guided tour invites you to board Escal'Atlantic, a life-size reconstituted transatlantic liner in the heart of the submarine base.

The epic of the great liners

A transatlantic port from 1862 until the eve of the Second World War, and a high place of shipbuilding, Saint-Nazaire forms with the liners an inseparable pair. A starting point for the links towards Central America and the West Indies, the city gave birth to immense ships, on the impulse of entrepreneurs who took part in the industrial take-off of the city. Among this legendary fleet figure the Normandie and the France, which made Saint-Nazaire the cradle of French liners. Inaugurated in April 2000, Escal'Atlantic extends this adventure over some 3,500 square metres: collection objects coming from these giants of the seas, multimedia devices and reconstructions of cabins and on-board spaces immerse the visitor in the daily life of the passengers of the past. The visit ends with a memorable descent in a lifeboat.

What there is to see

Escal'Atlantic recreates, life-size, the atmosphere of a transatlantic liner, from the cabins to the decks via the lounges. Period objects and immersive staging bring back to life the golden age of crossings. It is a playful and family experience, unique in Europe, which ends its visit with a descent in a lifeboat.

Practical information
