Fashion
On top of the plot, the iconic actors and the beautiful Parisian scenery, the TV show is also famous for its characters’ fabulous clothes. We can all agree that we have slightly judged Emily’s outfits, sometimes too coloured or out-of-the-box for a Parisian simply going to work. Fashion has an important place in these series, where each character has their own unique style, wearing designer clothes and outfits coming straight out of Fashion Week. While Parisians don't actually dress this boldly in everyday life, the show's eye-catching outfits have certainly contributed to its success. Fans are drawn to a world where people can express themselves through fashion without fear of judgment. We owe this to costume designer Patricia Field, who had previously dressed up the actresses of the series Sex and the City, a great success having earned multiple awards. She has also worked for the movie The Devil Wears Prada, earning herself an Oscar award for Best Costume Design. So it was obvious to invite her to work for Emily in Paris, where she had great fun styling your favourite characters alongside French costume designer Marylin Fitoussi. The show became a valuable showcase for many designer brands featured in the series. It had a significant impact on these brands, causing their sales to skyrocket and generating millions of dollars in revenue. You have to admit though, Lily Collins really pulls off all those outfits the stylists pick for her, even if sometimes we can't help but cringe a little at looks that are way too over-the-top or colorful for our taste!
