From the old castle to the museum

The building, constructed in the eighteenth century, was once the Officers' Pavilion and formed part of the old castle of Dole. It displays a fine architecture typically of the Comté of that period. The Museum of Fine Arts was originally in the Collège de l'Arc, a little further on in the city, but the growth of the collections during the nineteenth century made it necessary to find a vaster place to exhibit paintings and sculptures: it was this pavilion.
