Foch Boulevard

Foch Boulevard is one of the main thoroughfares in Angers' city centre. Here you'll find restaurants, pubs and shops, drawing large numbers of Angevins and students every day to enjoy the never-ending hustle and bustle. The boulevard was formed in 1812, under the name of "boulevard de Saumur". It was after World War I that it took the name of Marshal Foch, the General, who made a major contribution to the Allied victory. Take a look at the buildings on this street: you'll discover a number of mansions built between 1820 and 1860, just after the boulevard was created. This is where the wealthy residents lived in those days. Bear in mind that every Saturday, you'll find a market here that stretches across the northern part.
