Former Ambassador's House
The Maison de l'Ambassadeur
Off Rue Aime Ramond, the Carcassonne audio-guided tour points out the Maison de l'Ambassadeur, at number 50. This elegant residence in the Bastide Saint-Louis stands out for its carved facade and its wrought-iron balcony, witnesses to the Art Nouveau style.
An ambassador's residence
The house belonged, as its name indicates, to Henri-Auguste Ourmet, French ambassador to Finland in 1988. It is the work of architect Etienne Gordien and sculptor Joseph Guilhem. Its fine architecture, representative of a period in Carcassonne's history, earned it a place among the Historic Monuments. Abandoned for about twenty years, the residence was recently bought and renovated.
What there is to see
