From a college to a cannon foundry

The building was first a private mansion, enlarged by the purchase of neighbouring houses. In 1676, the Jesuits acquired it to install their college, intended to give a Catholic education to the sons of Protestant families. This period was short-lived: in 1763, the Jesuits were expelled and their establishment transformed into a cannon foundry for the armies of the Republic, from which came nearly three hundred and sixty pieces of artillery. Become a boys' school in the nineteenth century, the former college today houses cultural institutions, including the tourist office and the dance conservatory.

The former college raises its imposing brick façade, typical of Montauban, with a past in turn religious, military and educational. Housing today the tourist office and several institutions, it is discovered from the street and constitutes a good starting point for the visit of the city.
