Former Saint-Jean church

It is indeed a third church that can be seen here, just a few metres from Saint-Bénigne Cathedral. After all, Dijon is the city of a hundred steeples! Built in the flamboyant Gothic style, this former church dates back to 1470. Stripped of its consecration after the French Revolution, it was used as a market, butcher's shop and military store. Today, it houses the Dijon-Bourgogne theatre. It's a rather distinctive theatre, where the audience will be surprised by the unique atmosphere of the building. It is located on Bossuet Square, named after Jacques-Bénigne Bossuet, French bishop, preacher and writer who was elected to the French Academy in 1671. He was baptised in this church.
