Where the river meets the sea

The outer harbour of Honfleur marks the passage between the central docks and the open sea. An estuary is a fragile and unique environment, mixing fresh water and salt water; that of the Seine is one of the largest in Europe. The outer harbour is at the edge of the centre of Honfleur, towards the opening onto the Seine estuary. Its pontoons and its surroundings can be walked freely on foot at all hours and on the level, offering fine views over the open sea.
