A dwelling turned Renaissance jewel

The Loire Valley was long a favourite place of the kings of France. The presence of the court drew the nobility, who built castles and mansions such as this one. Originally a medieval dwelling, it was embellished in the early sixteenth century by its owner, who drew on the Italian Renaissance to create one of the first facades of this style in the Touraine.
