The gate of the Guepin barracks

On square l'Herminier, in the heart of the city centre, the Brest audio-guided tour stops in front of the gate of the Guepin barracks, a remnant of a former seventeenth-century barracks destroyed during the Second World War.

From a seminary to a barracks

This gate once belonged to a religious school, a former seminary, before the building became the Guepin military barracks. It bears symbols of the Navy, witnesses to the military functions the building held before its destruction.

What to see

Of the whole building, only this gate survived: it now stands, isolated, in the heart of the Brest city centre. Come closer to observe its ornaments and the maritime symbols that recall the military past of the city.
