The Jardin de Ville
A green stop on the Vienne audio-guided tour, this pretty garden lies a few metres from the Rhone. Designed in the nineteenth century, it was renamed after the Second World War the Jardin du 8 mai 1945.
A nineteenth-century setting
The garden reveals fine flowerbeds and around a hundred species of trees. Much frequented by locals, it takes on beautiful colours in spring. It was during its landscaping that an ancient Roman road was discovered, a witness to the great ancient city that Vienne once was.
What to see
A pleasant park for a break a stone's throw from the tourist office and the historic centre, it holds the remains of this Roman road. About ten minutes' walk away, towards boulevard Fernand Point, also stands the Pyramid of Vienne, an ancient column that once belonged to a Roman circus of the late second century, where chariot races were held.
