A square of many names

The square was laid out in 1764, in the heart of Dole, at the crossroads of the roads leading to Dijon, Besançon, Chalon or Geneva. Over history, it changed its name several times: Place Neuve, Place de la Révolution, Place Napoléon, then Place Pingon. It was in 1893 that it took the name of Jules Grévy, fourth president of the Third Republic. Its private mansions testify to the prosperity of the city in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
