Keep Exploring

Let’s take a short break from the route to give you a few ideas for exploring beyond Quiberon. The surrounding area is packed with places to discover, from dramatic coastlines to ancient megaliths, and it would be a shame to miss them. You don’t have to go far to start. Just outside town, follow the spectacular Côte Sauvage, or Wild Coast. For 8 kilometers (5 miles), jagged cliffs and steep-sided coves create a natural stage where the Atlantic puts on quite a show. To travel even farther back in time, head to Carnac and its famous alignments, where thousands of menhirs stretch into the distance. Nearby, stop at Locmariaquer to see the Grand Menhir Brisé, the Broken Menhir of Er Grah, a granite giant measuring 20 meters (66 feet). If boats and maritime heritage are more your thing, make your way to La Trinité-sur-Mer, a renowned center for offshore sailing. History lovers, meanwhile, can wander the medieval cobbled streets around the port of Saint-Goustan in Auray. For something especially picturesque, the Étel estuary reveals the charming islet of Saint-Cado and its famous little red-roofed house standing out on the water. And if the open sea is calling, set sail from Port-Maria. Cross over to Belle-Île-en-Mer to admire the Aiguilles de Port-Coton, painted by Monet; explore the turquoise beaches of the car-free islands of Houat and Hoëdic; or take a cruise through the Gulf of Morbihan and visit Île-aux-Moines. With all that to choose from, there are plenty of ways to keep the adventure going.
