The dwelling of a man of letters

Built at the end of the seventeenth century, this private mansion was the dwelling of the jurist and poet Jean-Jacques Lefranc de Pompignan, of whom one notably remembers the Ode on the death of Jean-Baptiste Rousseau, praised for its lyricism. Bought back in the nineteenth century by Armand Cambon, painter and first curator of the Ingres museum, the mansion has been listed as a historic monument since 1972. Its fine entrance and its spacious courtyard, whose arcades of the right wing evoke former coach houses, testify to its prestigious past.
