You’re now walking through one of Dunkirk’s marina areas. To your left is the Marina Basin, and to your right, the Commerce Basin. The Commerce Basin can host up to 140 boats, while the Marina Basin can accommodate 170. In the 19th century, this part of the city was home to shipyards and maritime companies — a busy industrial zone tied to Dunkirk’s identity as a working port. Today, the atmosphere has changed, with shops, university buildings, and the Port Museum now lining the waterfront. These two basins are part of Dunkirk’s three marina sites, making the city a favorite stop for pleasure boaters from all over Europe.
