The childhood of a poet

Max Jacob, who said he was "born for Brittany", was born in Quimper in 1876, in a non-practising Jewish family. He spent his youth on the quays of the Odet, between the family home and the sewing workshop of his grandfather, at number 8 of the Rue du Parc. Of fragile health, he excelled in his studies and was passionate about reading, music and painting, three passions that led him to Paris around 1900. It is in the bohemian district of Montmartre that he frequented great artistic figures of the time, such as Braque, Apollinaire, Matisse or Modigliani, becoming one of the notable poets and painters of his time.
