Museum of Old Aix

Just to your left, you'll find the Museum of Old Aix. It is housed in the former Estienne de Saint-Jean townhouse, built in the 17th century, most likely by architect Pierre Puget. Formerly the home of Lord François d'Estienne, it became city property in 1922, thanks to the generous bequest of Marie d'Estienne de Saint-Jean. She also donated her extensive collection of artifacts, driven by her lifelong dream of transforming her home into a museum dedicated to the city's and the region's rich history. The dream became reality in 1932 when the mansion officially became the Museum of Old Aix. On display today are period objects, puppets, costumes, furniture, earthenware and nativity scene figures. And all this set within the walls of this stunning aristocratic house. History buffs, take note! A visit to this museum is a must.
