The town hall of Nancy
The Nancy audio-guided tour has you admire the town hall, which occupies a prime place in the sublime setting of Place Stanislas. By its dimensions, its decoration and its location, it stands out as one of the finest palaces offered to the magistrates of the city.
The work of Emmanuel Héré
The town hall was built in the eighteenth century by the architect Emmanuel Héré, as part of the great project of Place Stanislas desired by Duke Stanislas Leszczynski. Its monumental façade, adorned with a sculpted pediment and balconies with the famous gilded gates of Jean Lamour, occupies a whole side of the square. It testifies to the splendour and the ambition of the Nancy of the Age of Enlightenment.
What there is to see
Inside, the town hall houses a magnificent staircase of honour adorned with a wrought-iron railing by Jean Lamour, as well as decorated salons. From its balconies, during openings, the view over Place Stanislas is exceptional. It is one of the jewels of the ensemble listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
