Notre-Dame Cathedral of Strasbourg, a Gothic masterpiece

Like four million visitors each year, here you are before Notre-Dame Cathedral of Strasbourg, a prodigy of the gigantic and the delicate. It is the most visited cathedral in France after Notre-Dame of Paris. The Strasbourg audio-guided tour stops here to evoke this Gothic jewel, the absolute emblem of the city.

A cathedral founded in 1015

Founded in 1015 on the remains of an earlier cathedral, Notre-Dame Cathedral of Strasbourg was raised from the twelfth century in a flamboyant Gothic style. Built in pink sandstone from the Vosges, it deploys a richly carved façade and a unique spire culminating at more than one hundred and forty metres, which long made it the tallest building in Christendom. It is a summit of Gothic art.

What to see

You admire the finely carved pink sandstone façade, the spire, the stained glass and the famous astronomical clock. The climb to the platform offers an exceptional view of the city and, in the distance, the Vosges and the Black Forest.
