An encounter across the Atlantic

During the harsh winter of 1829, three members of the Osage people, exhausted at the end of a long journey of two and a half years across Europe to defend the cause of their people, stopped in Montauban. Taken in by the bishop of the city, they were helped by the people of Montauban who organised a collection to allow them to return home. Back in their village, they passed on the account of this odyssey from generation to generation. In 1989, an association renewed contact with the Osages, giving rise to cultural exchanges; since then, a plot of the Botanical Garden has been dedicated to them.
