Rue Pairoliere
A stop on the Nice audio-guided tour, rue Pairoliere is one of the most authentic in old Nice. In the Middle Ages, it housed the guild of coppersmiths, the pairouliers in Nicois, which gave it its name.
The gourmet street of old Nice
Narrow and typical, the street is today lined with food shops: bakery, butcher, tripe shop, fishmonger, delicatessens. It is the whole gastronomic tradition of Nice that unfolds along the walk. On the nearby small square stands the Saint-Francois tower, fifty metres high.
What to see
The Saint-Francois tower is the former bell tower of the Franciscan church, which became the communal clock at the Revolution after the destruction of the convent. Restored in the twentieth century, it watches over the district. Stroll along rue Pairoliere to taste the flavours and atmosphere of old Nice.
