“Pirates” on the Wall

It would be easy to miss this piece of street art, yet Pirates captures something essential about Lorient. Its maritime world is infused with imagination and popular culture. The work is by Dino, also known as Dino Voodoo, a leading figure in Brittany’s street-art scene.

A pioneer of graffiti in the Lorient area, he was also one of the founders of Moker Crew in 2001. This collective of local artists played a major role in establishing Lorient as a recognized center for urban art. Across this stretch of wall, Dino creates a lively, offbeat scene.

At the center, a self-assured female pirate seems to challenge passersby. Beside her stand a strange butler, a colorful parrot, and the famous Captain Hook. Born from the world of Peter Pan, Captain Hook takes on a special resonance here, surrounded by Lorient’s famous harbors and the invigorating scent of salty sea air.
