Elegant as well as symmetrical, the Place Valois once belonged to the prestigious Palais Royal that you can see on your left. Place de Valois has belonged to the city since 1867, becoming an enclosed square due to its many surrounding buildings. Emily passes by here everyday as this is where she works for “Savoir”, a French marketing agency. She enters by that door over there, to the right of Galerie Patrick Fortin, then climbs up a few floors to join her boss, the iconic Sylvie Grateau. In the first episode, she’ll be welcomed by her work colleague, Julien Zimmer. The latter will not hesitate to judge her based on her looks and accent. She will then meet the agency’s founder, who thinks he doesn’t have much to learn from her. During her first meeting, Emily realises that the cultural gap between her colleagues and herself is really big. While her French colleagues remain very serious and professional at work, they will judge her for her enthusiasm when presenting. They will even ask her why she is screaming, when she was just speaking with a cheerful tone. She discovers with us just how complicated it will be for her to become part of this team. You’ve probably recognised the restaurant on the square: it’s where her colleagues meet up for lunch without inviting her. However, when First Lady Brigitte Macron reposted Emily’s Instagram post, they’re more than willing to invite her to eat with them.
