Place Granvelle

Tucked away in the heart of the historic Boucle district, Place Granvelle is the perfect escape from the city buzz for a moment. Once a private garden belonging to the elegant Granvelle Palace next door, this peaceful square wasn’t open to everyone. Back in the day, only the elite were allowed to enjoy its refined atmosphere, rare plants, graceful fountain, and even a 16th-century sundial. But in 1712, the city bought the property and opened it up to the public 16 years later. Suddenly, everyone could feel like a special guest. Place Granvelle has been reshaped and extended over time, gradually taking on its current look, thanks to updates in the 18th and 20th centuries. A bandstand, a fountain, statues paying tribute to local figures, and even an artificial grotto, built for the 1860 international exhibition, now add to its charm and character.
