The Place Sathonay

The Lyon audio-guided tour leads you to the Place Sathonay, a convivial meeting place of the town centre, appreciated for its terraces and its pétanque court.

A convivial square in the heart of Lyon

A convivial atmosphere reigns over the Place Sathonay, with its pétanque court at its centre and the many cafés and bars that surround it. It is an essential meeting place, where the inhabitants like to gather in the shade of the trees. At its centre stands the statue of Sergeant Blandan, a soldier born in Lyon in 1819, made a knight of the Legion of Honour at his death, in tribute to his heroic resistance within the French army. The square thus offers, behind its relaxed atmosphere, a nod to the military history of the city.
