Place Sathonay

This square has a friendly atmosphere to it, with “pétanque” courts in the middle and numerous cafés and bars around it. Petanque is a French leisurely game involving strategy and skill to throw metallic balls as close as possible to a smaller one.  Inhabitants regularly gather under the shade of the trees that adorn it. The statue at its center represents Sergeant Blandan, a military figure born in Lyon in 1819, who was posthumously awarded the Legion of Honor for his heroic resistance in the French army. It's a nice place to enjoy a drink in the heart of the city.
