Listed houses

The houses around the square date from the twelfth to the sixteenth century and are listed as historic monuments. They were restored in the 1960s on the initiative of the mayor of Tours. Once called place aux Fruits, it took the name of Charles Plumereau, who left the city a substantial sum on his death.

What to see

The square is also linked to the passage of Joan of Arc: look out for the commemorative plaques on the walls. At number 39 stands a house known as La Pucelle armee, built on the armoury that made her armour in 1429. Affectionately nicknamed place Plume by locals, it remains one of the living hearts of old Tours.
