Porte des Enfants du Rhône

You are standing before the Porte des Enfants du Rhône, the most monumental entrance to Tête d’Or Park. Located on Place du Général-Leclerc, it marks the arrival into the park with a true sense of grandeur. Beyond its imposing gates, your eye follows the pathways, the trees, and the sweeping view leading toward the lake. This gate is more than just a practical entrance. It is also an important heritage landmark, built at the beginning of the 20th century from a design by architect Charles Meysson, with remarkable wrought-iron craftsmanship. Its name comes from the nearby Enfants du Rhône monument, dedicated to Lyon soldiers who died during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870. With its stone pillars, metal ornaments, and almost theatrical appearance, the gate already reveals the ambition behind the park: to offer the people of Lyon a vast natural space, but also a place of remembrance, leisure, and public life. Recently restored, it has regained its full presence and remains today one of the most beautiful gateways into Lyon’s green landscape.
