Prevoté Manor

On your right, behind the large red gate that hides the entrance, stands a historic building: the Manoir de la Prévôté. Built in the 16th century, it was once home to the provost of Guérande, the official responsible for the town’s administration and justice. The provost usually came from one of the city’s wealthiest families and could therefore live in elegant private mansions like this one. It’s one of the few remaining examples in town of a residential building so well preserved, even though it was restored in the 19th century to bring back its former splendor. Step back a little from the gate and you’ll see the top of the building: its stair tower on the right, the dormer window straight ahead, and a glimpse of the inner courtyard just beyond the gate.
