The Promenade des Anglais
An emblematic stop on the Nice audio-guided tour, the Promenade des Anglais is the true star of the city. Running along the Bay of Angels and its infinite blue, the Prom', as locals call it, invites a contemplative stroll.
A promenade wanted by the English
From the eighteenth century, English aristocrats fled the winter greyness of their country to warm up in the Nice sun. Complaining of lacking a place to stroll, the pastor Lewis Way decided to help the unemployed inhabitants by offering them to level a two-metre roadway. Dusty, but the movement was launched.
What to see
It was the first time a road served not only to go from one point to another, but to stroll. Today, lined with palm trees, beaches and grand hotels, the Promenade des Anglais stretches for kilometres along the sea. Stroll along it to feel all the charm of the Cote d'Azur.
