You're now walking along the quays, known as the boatmen's quays, named after the boatmen that once worked here. Today, they are entirely pedestrianized. So you can stroll along without a care in the world, admiring the beautiful houses that line them. These buildings date back to the 17th and 18th centuries. They're well worth a look, and, in fact, several of them have been listed as historical monuments. While you're in Strasbourg, be sure to take the time to follow the quays and wander a little further afield. From here, for example, you can continue to the Saint-Guillaume bridge and reach the Saint-Attale quay for a leisurely stroll along the Ill river, as far as the Neustadt district. Along the way, you'll also enjoy stunning views of the Pontonniers International High School, with its magnificent architecture.
