Roure Palace

Introducing the Palais du Roure, known as the “oak palace”, a cultural center dedicated to the region's folk arts and traditions. Calling all Provence enthusiasts! Here, you'll learn all about the local history and customs. But that's not all! You'll also find a fascinating collection of bells, curated by Jeanne de Flandreysy, a poet, journalist and writer who called this very palace home for over 40 years. She bought the building in 1918, back when it was known as Baroncelli Palace, and restored it to its former glory, making it one of the city's most admired private mansions. She then transformed the palace into a haven for southern culture, putting together an impressive collection of paintings, artifacts, manuscripts, furniture and documents, all tied to Provence and its history. She bequeathed it all to the city of Avignon in 1944, which in turn opened the palace's doors to the public, allowing everyone to browse through its many collections and delve into the region's heritage. Plus, you get to experience it all within the walls of a magnificent 15th-century building, once home to the wealthy Baroncelli family, originally from Florence, for a whopping 500 years. It’s listed, of course, as a historical monument.
