Rebuilt after a hurricane

Originally the church of Saint-Solenne stood here, but in the night of 6 to 7 June 1678, a hurricane destroyed it almost entirely. By decision of Louis XIV, and thanks to the support of his minister Colbert, whose wife was from Blois, the reconstruction began at the end of the seventeenth century. This vast project gave birth to a singular building, inaugurated in 1730, marrying Gothic elevation with classical elements.

What there is to see

The cathedral impresses with its luminous nave, its bell tower and its contemporary stained-glass windows, which bring a touch of modernity to the building. The crypt, one of the oldest parts of the ensemble, is worth the visit. From the forecourt, the view over the Loire and the roofs of Blois is superb.
