Saint-Louis Church

With its neoclassical architecture inspired by Greco-Roman design, Saint-Louis Church hasn’t always been a place of worship. Completed in 1788, just months before the French Revolution, it was first turned into a Temple of Reason and the Supreme Being, then later used as a military depot to store ammunition. It wasn’t until 1803, after the revolutionary wars, that the building was reinstated as a church and welcomed Toulon’s faithful once again. Restored after World War II, it was officially listed as a Historic Monument in 1945.
