Angevin Gothic

Built between the 11th and 13th centuries, the cathedral is a listed Historic Monument. It illustrates Angevin or Plantagenet Gothic, a variant of classical Gothic characterised by its strongly domed vaults. Since the 4th century, a succession of sanctuaries had already risen on this site, rebuilt over the centuries, making this place a very ancient Christian centre.

What there is to see

Inside, looking up, you admire the domed vaults of Angevin Gothic, which give the nave its characteristic momentum. The cathedral preserves rich stained-glass windows, from the 12th to the 15th century, as well as remarkable liturgical furnishings. The western facade, framed by its two towers, and the sculpted portal deserve attention, with respect for the place of worship.
