A place of worship marked by contemplation, the church of Saint-Sauveur is a stop on the Brest audio-guided tour. In Jesuit style, it was built between 1740 and 1749 on the site of a former seventeenth-century chapel.

A church for a thriving district

At that time, the Recouvrance district was expanding and it became necessary to build a larger place of worship to welcome the faithful. The church of Saint-Sauveur thus came into being, designed by the French military engineer Amedee-Francois Frezier. It has a nave with nine bays and a gable facade adorned with a round arch.

Having survived the wartime bombings relatively well, despite some post-war restorations, it is the oldest church in Brest. Enter the building with quiet and respect to appreciate its Jesuit architecture and its atmosphere of contemplation.
