Sculpture Ensemble pour la Paix et la Justice

Look to your left. Here you can see the sculpture Ensemble pour la Paix et la Justice, created in 1996 by Lyon artist Xavier de Fraissinette for the G7 summit held in Lyon. Seven figures join forces to lift a globe, symbolizing cooperation among the seven major powers of the time: France, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, and Japan. But if you look more closely at the globe, one detail stands out: only the G7 countries are represented. This choice sparked considerable criticism, with some arguing that a work dedicated to peace and justice symbolically left out a large part of the world. In any case, the sculpture now stands along the Allée du Lac, the path you are following.
