The eggs, the Bastille cable car
An emblematic stop on the Grenoble audio-guided tour, the Bastille cable car, nicknamed the eggs or the bubbles, is a true postcard of the city. From the banks of the Isere, it takes you quickly to the summit for an unforgettable aerial view.
One of the first urban cable cars
Inaugurated in 1934, the Grenoble cable car is one of the very first urban cable cars in the world, the third exactly, after those of Rio de Janeiro. Its transparent spherical cabins, made locally, have become a symbol of the city and offer a spectacular ascent over the Isere.
What to see
One can also reach the Bastille on foot, by laid-out paths and stairs, with a difference in altitude of nearly three hundred metres, for a fine immersion in nature. But the eggs remain the quickest and most spectacular way to reach the summit, to discover Grenoble from the sky.
