The Golden Lion square

Did you know that in France, numerous squares are named 'Lion d’or' due to their historical association with hotels? This naming tradition has become somewhat of an inside joke in French culture, as 'Lion d’or,' meaning the golden lion, sounds identical to 'au lit on dort,' which translates to 'in bed we sleep.' This charming square is a playful nod to this linguistic coincidence. It’s the the ideal place to admire the beautiful architecture typical of Lille. I'll leave you to admire the splendid house with a bow window on the corner. Its blue facade and protruding windows give it an incredible charm.". Next to it, the narrow house with its typical roof reminds us of the lack of space in Lille in the 19th century, which forced architects to be inventive and push their buildings upwards. The house at number 15 has been a listed building since 1927.
