Le Lieu Unique, the former LU biscuit factory

The Nantes audio-guided tour draws your gaze, from the ramparts of the château, towards the fine tower with a blue and gold dome that stands on the quay opposite. It belongs to the former factory of the famous Lefèvre-Utile biscuit works, better known by its initials LU and its timeless petit-beurre.

From biscuit factory to national stage

Today, LU stands for Lieu Unique: a fine reuse of those famous initials. Created on 1 January 2000 in the former biscuit works, the Lieu Unique has become a national stage and a centre of artistic exploration of all kinds. It is a place of diversity, conviviality and creation, which programmes shows, exhibitions, theatre and dance, faithful to the spirit of cultural effervescence that drives it.

What there is to see

The LU tower, with its blue and gold dome, is an emblematic landmark of the Nantes landscape. On the ground floor, a room recounts the history of the factory; at the top, you can access the Gyrorama, a mechanised belvedere fitted with a rudder that offers an original view of the city. Between industrial heritage and contemporary creation, the Lieu Unique embodies the cultural renewal of Nantes.

The Lieu Unique is on the quay, near the château, in the heart of Nantes.
