Timber-framed houses

By chance, the two timber-framed houses standing proudly before you have recently been renovated! As a result, you can admire all the delicacy of this 16th-century work! They were miraculously spared from World War II bombings, and were listed as historic monuments in 1947. Following their renovation, the oak used in their construction has been dated back to exactly 1513! Take a closer look at the carved details - they're magnificent! As was common in most buildings of that era, the ground floor was a shop with a door opening onto an alleyway leading to a courtyard and a back shop. The first floor was the owners' home! Nowadays, the buildings have become one of Caen's major photo stops and magnificent reminders of its medieval past. Don't hesitate to snap a shot.
