The town hall of Vienne

A stop on the Vienne audio-guided tour, the town hall stands on place Francois Mitterrand, in the heart of the city. The town council settled in 1771 in a former private mansion, that of the Marquis de Rachais.

A mansion turned town hall

The building was constructed between the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries. When the city bought it back at the end of the eighteenth century, it turned it into an administrative building while keeping many features of the past, notably its architecture blending Renaissance, Gothic and Baroque styles on a single building.
