View over Rue de Boigne and the Elephants

The Chambéry audio-guided tour offers you, like the de Maistre brothers from the top of their pedestal, a plunging view over Rue des Arcades, with the Elephant fountain in the background. It is one of the finest perspectives of the city.

The de Maistre brothers

The statue pays tribute to two natives of Chambéry born in the eighteenth century, the de Maistre brothers. Joseph was a politician, philosopher, magistrate and writer, a major figure of counter-revolutionary thought. His younger brother Xavier remained in memory for his novel A Journey Around My Room, a witty and original tale. Both embody the intellectual influence of Savoy.
