View from the Montée du Crêt de Roc

If you’re after a great view of Saint-Étienne and a souvenir photo worth keeping, head up the steps of the Montée du Crêt de Roc. Once you reach the top, you’ll be rewarded with a sweeping panorama over the city and its surrounding hills. While you’re there, follow Rue de l’Éternité and carry on to the Crêt de Roc Cemetery, a kind of Saint-Étienne version of Père Lachaise, perched high above the town. Here you’ll find the graves of several notable locals, including the local songwriter Jean-Baptiste Gaidon and architect Joseph Déchelette, father of the famous archaeologist of the same name. It’s a peaceful place of remembrance, steeped in history, and offering yet another breathtaking view of the city.
